Mounds Park Academy

For students entering grades 5-8

Students will take a culinary adventure around the world as they discover just how different breakfast can look all around the world! They'll leave behind traditional scrambled eggs, pancakes, and bacon for a while as they explore Vietnamese phỏ, Colombian arepas, Turkish menemen, Filipino tapsilog, Swiss muesli, and Burmese mohinga. Each day will focus on a new global region, and the ingredients that make some countries unique. Through the lens of food, students will learn about culture, history, geography, and nutrition. Each class will culminate in students cooking (and tasting!) one iconic breakfast dish from that day's region. Students will receive recipes in order to recreate a diverse set of dishes at home--as well as recommendations for where to find even more exciting breakfast foods at local restaurants.
